Charlie had barely talked to anyone since she came back. Truth is, she didn't want to explain everything that happened in Florida. She had a long talk with Sam about how she thought she was losing her friends, and of course he told her to go talk to them.
Charlie showed up at Ellie's house and knocked on her door hoping Ellie wasn't pissed at her. She didnt mean to push everyone away, it just kind of happened. Ellie opened the door and Charlie spoke. "Hi...can I talk to you?" She asked and Ellie let her inside. It was awkward to Charlie, which she hated because they were so close before. "How have you been?" She asked.

Things seemed strained between herself and Charlie. Ellie didn't like that. Charlie was her best friend and it wasn't right. "I've been alright, how about you?" Ellie asked as she walked towards the kitchen with Charlie following. She opened up the fridge door and pulled our two sodas for the pair of them.

Charlie sat on the stool in front of the kitchen counter. "I could be better." she sighed and took a sip of her soda. "..I was talking to Sam. He told me how distant I've been and I just wanted to say sorry." she said, trying not to tear up.

Ellie responded with a shake of her head. "You don't have to apologise. You've had things going on, I understand..". If anyone knew the grief after losing a family member it was Ellie the orphan. She took a sip of her soda and sighed. "I'm so sorry..."

Charlie shrugged. "It's okay..there's really nothing anybody can do about it." she sighed a bit. She knew Ellie would understand how she felt, but she still felt guilty for shutting her out. "So how have things been here..?" She asked.

Ellie closed her eyes and let out a deep breathe. Charlie was right. There was nothing anyone could do.. that didn't make it any easier to deal with. "Things have been.. quiet and weird. Everyone's living their separate lives. You and your brother having been grieving. Victoria went into labor so Jordan's never left her side. Alex is ignoring every one of my calls so I think he's got another girlfriend and oh, my cheating ex boyfriend who gave me the eating disorder is now my room mate. Just peachy. The rest.. just living on." Ellie said, her eyes dropping to the ground.

Charlie listened to Ellie, not realizing how much she missed. She was gonna comment on Jordan, but that part of her life was over now. That was the deal. Victoria helped him out of jail, so Charlie stayed away. "Wait? Why is your ex living with you?" she asked. " Hecaused your eating disorder?" she asked worriedly.

"His name is is Luke. He's new in town.. well, new back in town. He didn't have anywhere to go so then.. ring ring ring, he wanted a place to stay and for some reason I said yes." She sighed. Taking a sip of her soda she watched her best friends expression change from surprise to worry. "Well, yeah, though I'd never tell him. He cheated on me. I felt dumb and stupid and not good enough so I thought I'd change myself.. started skipping meals which lead to.. well, you know how it goes."

Charlie's eyes widened as soon as Ellie mentioned Luke's name. Luke had mentioned Ellie's name before, but Charlie didn't think Kingswood could be that small. "I-I'm so sorry Ellie." she told her, "No one should make you feel that way. Screw him." she told her. "But is there another place he can stay? You shouldn't have to live with your ex...especially for what he did. "

With a shrug of her shoulders, she sighed. "If there was, I'm sure he would have been staying there already." "It's fine. It's in the past. I've moved on.". The girls moved into the lounge room and took a seat on the more comfortable furniture. "How's your family dealing.. with the loss?"

Charlie thought of ways to change the living situation. She couldn't imagine having to live with an ex. "Are you sure? I mean he can stay with Sam.." she mentioned. "Oh, um..they're doing alright. It's just different not having my grandparents here." she bit her lip; a tactic she used to keep from crying. "But I guess we're good. I just wish things were different.. " she sighed.

Ellie smiled at her friend for the effort. "It's fine. But thank you.". She listened on as Charlie spoke about the absence of her grandparents. "I know.. exactly how you feel." "Maybe we should go out and do something.. get our minds on more happy things. If you feel up to it?" She suggested.

Charlie didn't really want to go out, but she knew she should. A distraction is definitely what she needed. "Sounds like a good plan. I could use some best friend time." She smiled. "What should we do?" She asked.

"Hmm, we could go bowling?" She suggested, rattling off the first thing that popped into her head.

"That sounds fun!" Charlie figured there wouldn't be anyone they knew there. They'd all be out partying or something- and the last person she wanted to run into was Jordan or Victoria. They hopped in Ellie's car and drove to the bowling alley. They walked in, chose their lane and started the game. "Okay, you start first! I think I lost my mojo with this game." she laughed a bit.
