One is the loneliest number that you?ll ever do. Way worse than two.

Stella ordered a slice of lemon cheesecake and sat down at a table to eat it. She took a bite and held it in her mouth thinking of the homade pie that Mary, the maid who used to work for her father, used to make. The pie here wasn't as good as Mary's, but Stella still enjoyed it.
Stella missed Mary and for more than just her cooking. Mary had treated Stella like a daughter and, unlike her father who she missed even more, Mary was still alive. They used to write to each other and Stella was a greeter at Mary's wedding. A few months ago, Mary had suggested that they stop trying to stay in touch because she had her own family now.
