Luke wanted a fresh new start, to forget about his past. Forget about his family who treated him like a nobody, who never believed in him and his dreams. He wanted to move somewhere where he could make his dream become reality. And, well, Kingswood is as good as he's going to get without a stable job.
He drove into his new town for his first time, with nothing but his helmet and his Harley Davidson motorcycle. That's all he needs, really. He's made arrangements to stay with his ex-girlfriend for as long as he needed, but of course he wants to make sure to get his own place as soon as possible. He put a mental note in his head to look for a job.
Luke drove past a long stretch of tan, cozy-looking sand, so he decided to stop by and see what the beach has to offer. As he parked his motorcycle, he listened to the soft purr of the engine turning off. He smiled a little, and put his helmet on the seat. He walked through the sand, thankful for not wearing a jacket, it had to been 90 degrees out.. at least.
He bought a smoothie to quench his thirst, and while turning around he accidentally bumped right into someone, "I-I didn't see you there, I'm so sorry. I didn't get anything on you did I?" Luke asked, hoping he only spilled some on the ground.

Charlie had just returned from Florida where her parents lived. After everything that happened between her and Jordan, to Ellie having to run from this man, to finding out her grandpa had leukemia she was desperate to get away from it all..even if it was for a little while. She flew out with her grandpa who was getting chemotherapy at a specialized hospital in Florida, while her grandma was going in and out of Alzheimer's phases. After her grandpa passed, Charlie's parents didn't want her to go back without supervision. But somehow, Charlie convinced them she could live on her own. She must have made them feel guilty enough.
When Charlie got back to Kingswood, Summer had barely started, and Charlie wondered how life would be like there without her grandparents around. She decided to go to the beach, and brought her journal along so she could let it all out that way. The temperature went up as she was writing, so she went to grab a smoothie, but as she went to grab hers, someone ran into her. She looked at the guy who didn't have a familiar face whatsoever, which was odd because everyone knew everyone in kingswood. Had she really been gone that long? "Oh, no don't worry about it. It's partially my fault I should have been paying attention." she said, and looked down at the smoothie spillage on the concrete. "Uh, just on my shoes. But I can wash that off, it's no big deal." she tried to smile to reassure him that it was no big deal.

He noticed that she didn't seem worried about it at all, but Luke still felt pretty bad. He's usually not that clumsy. "Here, let me help." He said as he grabbed some napkins and bent down to wipe off her shoe, and it almost seemed like it smeared and made a bigger mess. He stood up slowly, and threw the napkin away. He chuckled, "Yeah, I'm really sorry about that.." He said. "I'm Luke, by the way. I actually just moved here today. Not a good first impression.." He smiled a bit. "And you are?"

Charlie felt bad that he was wiping the mess off her shoe. "Honestly, it's not a problem. This stuff happens a lot more than you think." she laughed a bit. "I'm Charlie." she told him, and shook his hand. "And I thought you just moved here. Everyone knows everyone here." she explained. "So..where from?" she asked him.

He smiled and shook her hand too, "Nice to meet you Charlie." He's never heard that name for a girl, he thought it was unique. "Oh, great." He laughed a little when she said everyone knows everyone here. That's part of the reason he moved, but he didn't say anything. "I moved here from a really small town, Byron. If you think everyone knows everyone here... in Byron the whole population lived in your neighborhood. I just wanted to move somewhere a little better I guess." He said, looking around. He noticed it didn't seem that much bigger, but he already likes the people better.

"Really?" she asked, very surprised about how small the city was. "Wow, I'd suffocate in a city like that. But I pretty much suffocate here too." she told him but realized she sounded doom & gloom. "But, you'll probably like it a lot more than Byron." she smiled trying to be a little more positive.

He smiled and nodded. It seemed like she didn't like it here much, he wondered why. "Well, uh, what are you doing later? I don't really know where anything is around here, and I'm gonna need to eat sooner or later." He grinned.

Charlie laughed at his comment about eating, and then she wondered if she should hang out with him. After the last few months, she swore to not let anyone else in...for awhile. Jordan was the main reason behind that; But Luke was new and she didn't want him to be alone. She bit her lip and answered "I'm not doing anything..What kind of food are you in the mood for?" she asked him.

He thought about it, "It's a toss up.. my mouth is watering over a big piece of steak, but Chinese food just sounds delicious." Luke laughed, he hadn't eaten all day and was really desperate for anything good. "Any of those sound good to you?"

Charlie laughed a bit. "Chinese food sounds good! There's actually a little restaurant right around the corner, so we can walk there." she smiled and led the way to the restaurant. "So...if you don't mind me asking, why'd you move here?" she asked him as they walked.

As they were walking, he was looking around, and it was actually really pretty here. There were some mountains in the distance, he already liked it more here than his hometown. Charlie asked why he moved out here. He looked down, and bit his lip. "It's kind of complicated.." Luke said, not even wanting to bring it up, because he knew once he started he wouldn't be able to stop. He turned to look at her, "I didn't grow up in a normal family, I guess. Parents are supposed to encourage their kids... mine never encouraged me to follow what I believe in. Ever since elementary school I've wanted to become a writer, and slowly It's made me want to become a scriptwriter. My parents always thought I was just being silly and always wanted me to become a lawyer. That's just not what I want to do. They would never let me be my own person." I looked forward, where the mountains were. I should've stopped a long time ago. Why am I telling a stranger all of this?
"My sister, Lucy, as soon as she turned 18 a couple of years ago, she moved far away. Nobody knows where she went, and I look up to her for that... for just up and leaving, following her dreams. So when I graduated high school, I did the same thing. Granted, my parents know where I am, i'm not that far away from them, and I'm living at my ex-girlfriends house, but it's still somewhere fresh." Luke said, taking a deep breath in, and then sighing. "I-i'm sorry, I really didn't mean to pound all of that on you right off that bat... I've never had anyone to talk to about this so it was nice to get that off my chest.." He looked at her, apologetic.

Charlie looked at him as he explained his reason for being here. She was surprised with how open he was, but she didn't mind at all. "Don't say you're sorry for being honest. it's refreshing." she smiled a little, and looked to the ground. "But that's good for you. You're following your own path, not one that your parents have set for you. And that's a hard thing to do." she told him. "But you're staying with your ex...? Who's your ex?" Charlie asked as they made it to the restaurant. She figured she must know her if she lives in Kingswood.

"Her name is Ellie. We didn't really end things on a good note the last time I saw her, so I don't really know how this whole thing is going to work." He said, thinking back to when they dated. They dated a couple of years ago, but Ellie ended it when Luke cheated on her. He didn't include that part because, why would he? Luke has changed for the better and understands what he did wrong. He still feels bad about it, and he's pretty sure Ellie still hates him. Luke shrugged, "Relationships are tough though, both people need to want it to work you know?" He said, staring at the ground then back at her. He laughed, "Again... i'm sorry. I pretty much just told you my whole life story, I have a hard time keeping my mouth shut." He said. They could see the Chinese restaurant come into view now. Good, he's starving. "So, tell me something about you. What's your life like?" He asked, hoping she doesn't think he's strange for being so open and honest.

"Ellie Makenlow?" she asked trying not to sound incredibly shocked. She wondered if she should tell him they were close..she chose not to until later on. Charlie laughed when he told her he couldn't keep his mouth shut. "Hey, I already told you I think it's refreshing." She slightly smiled. "I'm sorry about the living situation though." she told him. He asked her about her life. She thought about lying but what's the point? "Uhm..complicated." she paused. "I just got back from Florida..my grandpa died of leaukemia and my grandma has Alzheimer's...and I lived with them here. So now it's just my brother and I." she sighed. "Everything else is extremely complicated." she laughed a bit trying to make light of the situation.
