"...so he said that they're doing okay, and they should be in Washington by tonight." Charlie said, filling them in on the phone convo. She looked across the table at Alex, who still looked heartbroken and Chris who...well, pretty much looked the same. "She's going to be okay guys." she said, trying to convince herself of that as well. She didn't know what she would do if her best friend and her brother didn't come back. Charlie felt really bad for Chris, especially. Ellie was the only person he really knew in Kingswood. And now he's left with all her friends? "How are you guys holding up?" she asked both Chris and Alex.

Although Chris was dealing with it okay, he also felt sort of numb. He'd moved to Kingswood so that he didn't have to be apart from his childhood friend but now she had left him. He sort comfort in the fact that she wasn't alone, that she wasn't dead, and that she was safe. Well, more safe that what she would be in Kingswood.
"I'm okay. She's not alone and she's safe so I guess that's all that matters." Chris said as he played with his straw sitting in his glass of diet coke. "Did you speak to her.. or just Sam?'. Chris did worry for Ellie. Knowing her, she'd put everyone else's safety before her own. Now that she had Sam with her, Ellie would know he could be seen as collateral damage to this guy. That could mean, she'd put herself at risk to ensure Sam's safety but he decided not to air his thoughts so that Charlie wouldn't worry.

"Just Sam. But he told me that she's okay and he'd be honest." Charlie said to Chris. He seemed to accept it but Jordan could tell he was septic about her safety. Alex sat there for a moment, yet to say anything as so Jordan spoke directly to he and Charlie. "Have either of you consider the possibility that something may happen with Sam and Ellie while they are gone?" Jordan asked with a bit of a laugh at the end.

Chris seemed like he was alright, but Charlie wasn't entirely convinced. When Jordan joked that something could happen, Charlie felt sick even thinking about that. That was her older brother and her best friend? Ew. "No." Charlie said right away. "I mean..I don't think he sees her that way. And he knows about Alex, I don't think he'd cross that line." she said and took a sip of her water. She looked at Alex's face..he seemed a little bothered by the situation.

The way that Charlie's face scrunched up at the thought brought a big smile to Chris' face as he let out a laugh. Even though Ellie didn't think about Sam that way either.. as far as he knew, Alex and her were never actually together so she was free to do whatever she liked but again, Chris decided not to comment on it. The waitress brought over their meals and everyone fell silent as they slowly began to eat.

No one was really talkative, and Charlie thought this was probably a bad idea. She took a bit of her food, and washed it down with some water. She desperately tried to bring up a topic to change the subject. "So, Chris, how do you like Kingswood so far?" she asked. That was probably the stupidest question she could come up with. Obviously Kingswood wasn't his favorite place...

It was Ellie's turn to drive so at the next town they passed, they stopped and switched places. It probably wasn't the safest idea. She felt weak and lightheaded and she could have sworn she felt her heart rate lowering. But, Sam had been driving all day and he needed to rest and sleep.. which is what he did. She gripped on to the steering wheel as tight as she could to try and keep herself... well, up right and steady. Sam slowly awoke and she tried to act like she felt fine, "We're not top far now. We should be there pretty soon actually.". Usually, it would take longer but there were barely any cars on the freeway which was surprising considering it was too long away from Christmas.

"I like it actually. I like that it's small.. It makes it more sort of home-y I guess. Although, the person I came here for hasn't barely been here so that's been kind of a bummer..". Chris said with a nervous laugh on the end. "I was thinking about going back home actually.."

Charlie sighed. She knew that's how Chris felt. "I'm so sorry." she said and bit her lip. When Chris said he thought about going home, that caught everyone's attention. "Wow...really?" she paused. "When?" she asked him.

When Sam woke up, he realized she looked absolutely exhausted. "I can drive again. I'm not tired at all, and you look like you could use some sleep." he told her. Something about her seemed off. It seemed like she was hiding something, but he didn't know what. He'd try to get it out of her after she got some rest.

Although she wasn't really tired tired, her body was exhausted. Usually when she was this bad, she would be hospitalized but she had no time for that. Ellie pulled over and got out the car so he could drove. As she stepped out, her body crumbled and she almost fell to the ground. It was only at the last second that she was able to yank herself back up so she didn't hit the ground. She bit her lip, hoping Sam hadn't noticed as she made her to the other side of the car but it was too late. He knew something was up. "I-I just don't feel very well.. at all." Ellie said. That was the truth without giving every detail. Slowly she pushed herself up so she was able to get into the passenger seat.

He shrugged his shoulders a little as he took another bite of his food. "I haven't really given it much thought about when I'd go..". "..I might even end up in Washington instead..". Chris mumbled under his breathe, so low it was almost inaudible.

"Woah, wait where?" she asked. Charlie could sense that Chris cared about her a lot; But maybe more than just a friend. She wanted to talk to him about it, but she would have to talk to him later. Cause now was not the time or place.
After their meal they got up from their booth and exited the restaurant. Alex was quick to leave, which Charlie thought was odd, but he just said he wanted to be alone for a bit. That was understandable. Charlie turned to Jordan.. "I just want to check on Chris, make sure he's okay." she told him. She didn't want him freaking out because her and chris went off to talk. "I'll call you later?" she smiled and hugged him. After, she turned to Chris. "So what is this about you leaving? And to where?" she asked him.

He immediately ran to her side to see if Ellie was okay. This wasn't a normal cold, or food poisoning or food...it was something else. Sam got her in the car safely, and drove to the nearest ER. She had dozed off thinking they were driving to Washington, but when they pulled into the ER, she woke up. "I don't know what's going on, but your health is most important right now." he told her and helped her out of the car. She was so frail, and he had an idea of what could be wrong.

"I was thinking about going to Washington too." Chris admitted. "She wouldn't even have to know that I was there so there'd be no need for her to flip out or anything.. but it's just, she's my like my sister and I don't know Sam that well. I can't trust that he'll make sure that she's okay or that she'll make sure shes okay.". He wondered if Charlie would pick up on the fact that Chris had worried that Ellie would risk her own safety for Sam's.
