Mason reaffirmed the door number tag attached to his key. Yes, this was definitely it. Room 214. The apartment attendant just notified him that he was going to share a room with a woman named Jade Brooks. He did not mind it much, as long as he got to keep his peace, away from prying eyes.
The view that greeted him once he entered was breathtaking. The window overlooked the picturesque landscape of the sea. The air was cooling and natural. He took a deep breath, letting the wind bathe him in a soft breeze.
Placing his suitcase onto an island counter temporarily, he acknowledge the surrounding interior. The ceiling had furnished cornices, the furniture perfectly suitable in taste. It was antique, yet contemporary. Opening his suitcase, he retrieved his notebook and pen, recording his expenses and making some small notes, accounting his overall expenditure.
Mason finally decided to recline into one of the armchairs, picking up a newspaper. He thought of how he might as well catch up on the local news, while watching for his roommate.

Jade Brooks stood in the doorway of apartment 214, frozen solid at the sight of an unfamiliar man sitting peacefully in her living room like it was his own home. Jade had just returned from a tiring work out at the apartments gym facility and had expected to come home to an empty apartment - just as she'd left it - and cozy up on the couch with a nice cup of tea. Little did she know she would returning to the middle of a theif attempt. Theift? It couldn't be. He was too.. relaxed and peaceful to be robbing her. Slowly she began to move forward, approaching the mystery man sitting in her apartment. At the sight of her, he jumped out of his chair and greeted her with a smile. "W-Who are you?" She breathed.

"Mason. Mason Conley. The room attendant told me that I'd be sharing the room with you. I presume you're Miss Brooks?"
He answered softly. He was aware that the other was tired, based on her perspiration dotting her forehead and her breathy question. Mason was quite perplexed as to what to do next - offer her a seat in a room where she had been in longer than him? Or perhaps leave for the moment? Instead, he paced himself to the kitchen, making himself a sandwich.
"Are you hungry? I can prepare something, if you want."

She had a room mate now? Good to see the room attendant had decided to let Jade in on it and everything, she thought sarcastically. Jade stared back at him momentarily, blown away by the British accent that flowed out of him. She forced a little smile at the corner of her lips. Although still in a shock. "..A cup of tea would be nice.". He was British. They lived for that stuff so he should be used to that. Right?.

"Of course, if you wish."
He quipped, opening his suitcase to reveal two different boxes of tea. Mason went back to preparing his sandwich worthy of the press. He boiled some water, slicing the ham and chicken and lining them onto his already toasted bread. Mason was very particular about the order of his actions. It was a recent bad habit of his to do so.
He ended the preparation of the sandwiches with some dressing in them. He stirred the teapot absent-mindedly, before bringing the sandwiches and tea out, placing them onto the coffee table.
"Here you are. I've never understood why they call it coffee tables when you can put other things on it."

Jade let out a laugh. She had never really thought of it like that. "You're very observant." She mentioned with a smile on her face. Come to think of it, not once had she placed a cup of coffee on her coffee table. Odd.
Mason took a seat back into the armchair that he had been sitting in previously. She now took the time to take a closer look at her new room mate and examine his features. Jade began to realise that he was much more attractive than what she had once thought. She became oddly aware of how under dressed she now was in his presence. Internally she cursed that no one had informed her of his arrival. If she had of known she would have put the effort in to make herself much more presentable for their first meeting.
"So, Mr Conley," Jade began. "What brings you to this neck of the woods?"

"Hmm. Oddly enough, a travel brochure brought me here. I heard there's a famous eatery around here."
Mason gave a somewhat politically correct answer. He knew it was going to be asked sooner or later. He shrugged, taking a bite into his sandwich. Chewing it carefully, he washed it down with a sip of the tea. He hadn't noticed how the time on the clock now showed to be seven in the evening. Finishing his snack, he took another sip, taking in the aromatic scent of the leaves.
He decided to continue with the answer.
"It's on the tip of my tongue..I think it starts with an A or something..."

The only place started with an A in this area that came to Jade's mind was Aces Bar and Bistro which is where she was a waitress. He couldn't have been talking about there so she decided to keep her mouth shut.
"So you came thousands of miles to Kingswood just for.. food?". His answered had shocked Jade. He seemed very set on keeping a lot of things to himself but Jade decided to press the issue and continue on prying into the life of Mason Conley. "Where did she move from?" She asked, wrapping her fingers around her cup of tea, taking a small sip before placing it back on the coffee table.

"Nah, I came to study a degree here actually. I arrived from Boston this morning."
He relented slightly, giving off the impression of a joke. Sipping the remnants of his tea, he went to refill his cup, taking another sandwich in the process. He crossed his legs, relaxing into the armchair as he nibbled daintily on the bread. Mason was determined not to let his secret go. As with the rest of the people he met, he was not too sure whether he could trust this woman.
Mason took out an acceptance letter from the high school in the area. Nodding silently, he briefly dranked his tea.
"I'm taking up medical sciences."

"Medical sciences? So you're an academic then?"
He would have to be if he wanted to study medical science otherwise, he was a very ambitious character. Jade got to her feet, refilling her cup of tea before sitting back back down. She had a woollen rug draped over the bottom half of her body which she pulled up after feeling a cool breeze wander into the room. The door out onto the balcony was slightly ajar so Jade assumed he must have opened it earlier. Horrible memories filled her brain as she thought of her on that horrible balcony just a few short days ago. Leaned over the edge, ready to end her live. She felt a shiver go down her spine.. this time, not from the cold.

"Well, both my parents were professors. It's expected of me, I guess."
Mason put his cup down, finishing his tea. His eyes wandered around the room, once again admiring the interior. He was particularly fascinated with the roommate's choice of wallpaper, which gave the room a more rustic and comfortable feeling. His trunk lay near one of the doors, the hazel eyes regarding it intently, as though waiting for something to spring out.
He was quite unsure which bedroom she was occupying. Nonetheless, he wouldn't dare to check the rooms. So he parted his lips, a soothing voice speaking on his behalf.
"May I know which room I'll be taking?"

Jade nodded along to what she was saying. She understand what is was like growing up with parents that had high expectations. "My father used to be a professor too." She smiled, getting taken away into the memories of her past. Holding her fathers hand as he walked her into his huge lecture hall.
"Oh, right, of course." She got up and pointed to what would be his room. "I hope you'll find it most comfortable." Jade smiled. "Is there any other things you need brought up?". He only had his suitcase with him and surely that couldn't be all he had with him on his move.

Mason nodded in thanks, getting up as he picked up his suitcase, entering his new room. It was perfect - it was nicely furnished with a small table, a dresser and a bed. It was all he needed. He was also taken in by the fact that his room had a small balcony as well. Placing his suitcase onto the bed, he turned back to her, smiling.
"I love it. You have a nice taste, I must commend." He mused, grinning gently as he heard the enquiry. "Oh no, I've brought up what I need, its the trunk outside the door." Mason replied instantly, pulling it inside.

"Well I'll leave you to get all settled in then." Jade said exiting the room as he started to move all of his stuff his into his room.
A few short minutes later, Jade returned to his room. She apologised but remembered that there was something she had not shown him earlier. Approaching his four connected door cupboards, she swung open one set and instead of it opening up to the back of a bare cupboard as she was sure that Mason would have thought to see, it opened up to a small modern en-suite bathroom fitted with a toilet and a stylish shower bath. On the opposite wall there was a door which connected on from her room.
"It's a shared en-suite bathroom that connects onto both yours and my room."

"Why, thank you."
He smiled as she left, unpacking his clothes. Mason was beginning to take a liking to his room. It was definitely to his preference. It had a nice atmosphere, one of lofty emotions. He was in the middle of changing into casual shirt, when Jade entered.
"O..oh. Sorry, I wasn't aware that you were entering," Mason quipped, covering his bare chest with the shirt that was yet to be worn. He listened to her apology, accepting it as he watched her approach the closet area, revealing an en suite bathroom. The man was now impressed, she was definitely one with a good taste.
"That, is remarkably interesting. Is there somewhat a schedule as to when I can use it?" he asked sheepishly.
