Sitting in Aces Bar and Bistro, tapping her fingers against the table, Ellie braced herself for what was to come. One table to her left, sitting there eating a salad was Carol. Her mother. The one that ran out of herself and Abby when they were very young. The one who had been living in Kingswood this whole time and didn't bother to try and make any effort what so ever to get it contact with her daughters. The one who Elle recently found out had another son. A son that was older than Abby, meaning it through an affair during her parents marriage. A son who she had kept..
Ellie felt nothing but upset and disgrace towards this women that happened to be her mother. Her mother.. Carol.. must have noticed the worry on her face as she politely said, "Is something bothering you?". She was smiling. Ellie felt an ache in her gut. It was as if she had taken a knife and thrust it into her heart. She knew that smile. It was familiar. Getting up, Ellie took a deep breathe and took a place in the empty seat. "A-Are you Carol?". The fact that Ellie had known her name startled her. "Yes, do I know you?" She replied. How could Ellie answer this? Did she just jump out and say it?. Ellie plastered on a smile and said, "I'm Ellie Mankelow. I believe you may know me. You did give birth to me and all that." "Hi mom.". Her mothers face completely changed. It went from friendly stranger to pale as a ghost within seconds. "Ellie..". That was all she said. Jumping her, she grabbed her stuff and rushed out the door before Ellie was able to react let alone say anything.
Ellie sat there, eyes frozen staring at the ground. She'd just run out on her.. again. Sure, she was in a lot of shock but who wasn't?. As tears began to form, Ellie raised her shelves to her eyes preparing to go as the place was beginning to become more busy. There was bound to be someone she knew around her. It was a small town.

Link was having a bad day. Getting stood up for a date at the Aces Bar and Bistro? Totally boosted a guy's confidence. He sat alone at a table, ordering food anyway just in case she decided to show, but based on the last text he received it looked like she wasn't coming. Sighing and feeling sorry for himself, Link glumly ate his sandwich but witnessed an encounter between Ellie and her... mother? Carol was Ellie's mother? Link couldn't help but eavesdrop. The situation didn't make sense to him.
It was a short conversation... a tense conversation... Link had stopped eating for a moment there then Carol had stormed out and left Ellie hanging. What just happened? With nothing better to do, Link quickly received his check and went over to Ellie who was looking around like a lost puppy. "You okay, Ellie?" he asked. Link had been in town all his life and could still remember the day when Ellie first came to town, and the good and bad times that followed.

She looked up to see Link approach her table. She'd known him since almost her very first day in Kingswood so she knew that she could trust him. "I'm okay." Ellie said, obviously lying. She was sure that he knew the story about her mom. Everyone did in this town.. "My mom.. I haven't seen her since she left my sister, but, it turns out she's been living here all along.." "She had another son..". Tears continue to roll down her face. "She kept him." Ellie sobbed. Whipping the tears off her cheek with her jacket sleeve she realised she must have looked so silly and lame. Link seemed pretty down too. "You okay?"

Link wasn't quite sure if he could believe her. Besides, 'okay' was never a good word to use, typically it meant 'I'm really feeling like poop but I don't want you worrying about me'. I'm okay. He hated to see her cry, and her story made him want to cry. He'd had two loving and happily married parents all his life... There was no way he could place himself in her situation. "Ellie, I'm so sorry... That's rotten." he said. "I don't even know what to say." He sat down beside her figuring she needed a hug and placed one arm around her and rubbing her shoulder, trying to be as comforting as possible. "Me? No, not really. Not as big a story as you, I just got stood up is all." Link shrugged.

The reality that Ellie now had no parents was really hitting her. Her dad was dead and her mom couldn't care less about her. She couldn't help but feel like she had been abounded. "Thanks." Ellie said trying to fake out a smile, pretending she was okay. "Oh that's so horrible. I hate when girls do that." She sighed.

"Ellie, you sure you're fine? I'll drop it if you want me to, but I just can't help but feel like you're not..." Link said. Her smile almost convinced him, but there was just something about her demeanor that didn't seem right. And who would be okay after something like this? "Yeah, me too. Kinda sucks. Got any single friends who'd take a stab at me?" he smiled, trying to lighten the mood.

"To be completely honest, I'm not okay.. but I will be.". With that, she honestly meant it. It may take some time but she'd beokay. "As if you could have any trouble finding girls!". Ellie laughed a little. The first bit of happiness she'd felt all day.

Link nodded, believing what she said, smiled, and gave her one last squeeze before dropping his arm to his side and giving her a little bit more space. He laughed. "I know, right! Nah, just kidding, but seriously- I've been pretty unlucky lately." he said with a huge smile spread across his face.

"I find that hard to believe." She said honestly. Ellie brought the straw in her drink up to her mouth to take a sip of her Coca Cola before placing it back in the spot that it had previously been. "So, what happened with this girl? Has she even let you know that can't make it or has she just left you high and dry?"

"Eh, it comes and goes I guess." he said. "Well I got here and texted her 'Hey I'm here', we were going to meet up, and she texted back 'hey, what's up'. I said that I was waiting and she replied 'LOL, I'm at home watching Aladdin'. So I blatantly asked her if she was coming on our date and she didn't reply... I was hoping for awhile there that she was rushing to get here because she forgot but it's been way too long now and considering she was ignoring our date in the other texts..." Link felt like he was blabbing way too much. Girls were the ones who were supposed to talk more. He was supposed to listen. "It's complicated."

"She doesn't sound very nice and worth any of your time at all if you ask me. I think you should just forget about her. You're a catch. You can get any girl you like. Don't waste your time on people like that." She said.

Ellie was certainly motivating him. And coming from her, a goddess in her own right, it meant a lot. All Link could do was smile like a dork. "Thanks Ellie. A lot. I mean it." he said sincerely. "Now, should I even ask? Your love life up to something?"

She smiled back at him before taking another sip of her drink. "Um, honestly, it's pretty much just come to a halt." Ellie told him. "I was dating this guy for a little while but yeah, that's over now."

Link was good on food and drink. He might get a little thirsty later, but that was later- not now. "Well that's surprising. Sorry- if you still kinda like him anyway. Bad breakup?" he asked. "And right back at you, if you wanna be dating someone any guy you're interested in would be lucky and more likely than not, willing to date you." lol link don't get any ideas

"Not the best but could be worse I guess." Ellie said. She listened to what Link had said and couldn't help but laugh. "Now that's a joke!". Ellie was quite aware that she was one of the most unattractive people in Kingswood and no one would want to date her.
