There was just something about ice skating that she loved. Victoria smiled lightly to herself, sitting on the bench near the ice skate rental place. She had her own ice skates, and was not lacing them up to begin skating. She hadn't went skating in quite some time; with a new need and desire to get out of the house, Tori had decided that today was a better day than ever. It was Saturday. For once her dad, brother, and sisters had all been home. But, ever since her mother had passed away, the idea of everyone being home all day seemed strange. So, Tori had bailed.
Now, however, she was wishing that she had brought a friend along. She finished lacing up her skates and stood, wobbling over to the lockers to stuff her belongings in there. Then, the young adult turned to face the entrance to the ice. At one point, she was a talented ice skater. She wasn't sure how capable she still was. But, it was now or never. Tori pushed off onto the ice, finding it pleasant that the ice skating ring was half-empty until later this evening when they had theme night. She didn't know what the theme was, but she planned to bail out by then. She loved fashion and designing outfits, but she didn't feel like the thrill of a theme night tonight.
She found herself considering what the theme could possibly be for a few seconds, letting her mind drift. She didn;t even notice that she was skating fairly close to an older couple and by the time that she did, she had to swerve to miss them. Tori stumbled to the ground, blushing brightly at her silliness. She shifted to her butt, holding her knee for a second while it ached and then glancing around to see who had saw. Hopefully, no one.

Zan and Mr. Kirks skated back and forth on the side of the ice rink. They were racing each other. When Mr. Kirks had first taken Zan ice skating, five years ago, he had let him win half the time. Now, Zan could beat him naturally.
Mr. Kirks phone started ringing. He looked and saw that it was a business partner of his. "Go ahead and answer it Dad" Zan told him. "I'll just skate by myself for a little while. He began to skate around the rink, while Mr. Kirks leaned on the rink wall and talked on the phone.
He saw some other skaters up ahead of him. A girl moved out of the way of some other skaters and fell. The other's didn't seem to notice and just kept on skating. Zan skated over to her. "Hey, are you ok?" he asked.

The sound of a voice made Tori jump. She turned, tilting her head up to see who had saw. A boy, somewhere around her age, was standing there. She blushed all the more at this realization and turned her gaze away. "oh... I-I'm fine." She glanced to her knee and rubbed it for a second before carefully hobbling up. She wobbled for a second, trying to regain her balance. Once she had done so, she shifted her gaze to the boy awkwardly. She wished that she was as confident or outgoing as her sisters. "thanks. I was kind of hoping no one saw." after admitting this, she laughed at herself, hoping o ease how embarrassed she felt.

"It's ok to fall sometimes, especially when things get in your way" Zan told her. She looked nervous. Zan wondered if it was from having fallen or from something else.
He got a fear that he often got when meeting new people, especially nervous people. He was worried that she disliked him from the moment she saw him. He was worried she would see right through him and know that he was different. He had never had any proof that this ever happened, but he didn't have any proof that it never did.

Tori smiled as the boy stated that it was no big deal. She had a way of overreactng to situations. That was just her. He boy made her feel slightly better about it, though. She managed to look at him fully now, a shy smile still on her face. "I guess you're right..." Tori paused, giving a slight now of confirmation. She extended a hand now, realizing that the boy was probably someone from the area. She didn't recognize him though. "I'm Tori. Thanks for the help."

"No problem" he replied, although he didn't feel like he had helped her very much. He took her hand and gently shook it. "I'm Zan by the way."

"Zan?" Tori smiled slightly. "that's a cool name; I've never heard it before." she shifted. Ow. Fully steadying hersel on her ice skates. Skating toward the edge, she motioned for Zan to follow. Once he had, she spun around and braced herself against the wall of he rink. "it's nice to meet you. Are you new here?... If you don't mind my asking."

Zan followed Tori to the wall of the rink. He stood next to her and leaned against the ledge. She asked if he was new here. "Yeah" he replied. "I just moved here a few weeks ago."

"Oh, really?" Genuinely interested, Tori grinned. She loved to travel and loved to meet new people. She shoved her shyness to the side as best as she could as she turned to fully face Zan. Tori twisted a strand of her hair tightly around her finger as they spoke. "Where are you from? Do you like it here so far?"

"I'm from Westford" he told her. "It's a small town in Colorado. My dad got a business deal here and that's why we moved." What he didn't tell her, was that his father did not take the business deal because it was better than the one he had, but because he was looking for an excuse to move. Zan had a friend who grew suspicious of him and one day started asking him a bunch of questions and he answered them truthfully. Soon, all of his friends were isolating him and spreading rumors.
"This is a nice place. It's a little more upscale then I'm used to, but it's cool. I'm just a little lonely because I don't know many people."

"Colorado is beautiful! It has to be quite the change for you, though." Tori agreed quickly. She had only been to Colorado once when she was little, but it had been pretty. She had always thought it would be fun to live somewhere like Colorado. Really, she just loved to travel. "but Kingswood is nice, too. You'll like it after a while. There's a nice... Charm to it. Maybe, I mean if you want to -don't feel like you have to or anything- but, maybe I could show you around some? I've lived here forever, so I could definitely introduce you to someone..." she trailed off, realizing that she was kind of rambling, and that her hair was twisted quite tightly around her finger. Letting it go, she smiled sheepishly. "I'm sorry. I ramble sometimes."

"Ok" he replied, trying not to sound too excited. "I'd love for you to show me around." He was glad to be making a friend, but he hoped he wouldn't blow it. "It's ok if you ramble sometimes. A lot of people do that."

He probably thought she was crazy. Tori frowned for just a second at this thought. But, the boy seemed nice enough, and his words were fairly calming, so she tried to brush it off. She was glad he had accepted her offer. Being less outgoing than her sisters, she really only had a handful of friends. Plus, she was happy to help anyone out who needed it. She tried to not sound too excited that he had agreed, instead just forcing her smile to remain small and nodding. "Okay! Do you want to go now? Or some other time? Whenever is fine with me."

"Actually, I'm not sure if I’m free now" he told her. He had come here with his dad and he didn't want to just leave, at least not without telling him. Mr. Kirks would wonder where he was and worry.
He glanced around the arena saw his dad. He was off the phone and skating around now. Zan turned to Tori. "I'll be back in a sec" he told her. He skated off and met up with his father. "Hey dad, is it ok if I bail?" Mr. Kirks told him it was and to go have fun with his new friend. Apparently he had been watching him, but that wasn't surprising.
Zan skated back to Tori. "Actually I am free right now. Want to go?"

Tori nodded after Zan, watching him go. At first, she thought he was just looking for an excuse to bail on her. She was random, rambly, and clumsy... why would anyone want to hang out with that? But, she felt a little better as she watched Zan talk to a man and they both looked in her direction. She smiled as he returned, happy to hear his words. "Sure! I'm kind of new to this tour thing, so you'll have to bare with me!"
Tori skated a small circle, glad to have an excuse to both stay out of the house and to not look like the friendless loser. Once off the ring, she plopped down on the bench where she had left her shoes. She then began to delace her skates, briefly glancing up at Zan as she did so. "Anywhere you would like to see first?"
