Alex had told Ellie that he wanted a chance to explain himself, but obviously the get together at charlie's house wasn't the best time. Alex knocked on Ellie's apartment door, hoping she wouldn't slam the door in his face. She opened the door and he looked at her, "Please..please. Just let me explain." he said, and paused. "Can I come in?" he asked, expecting her to yell and him and shut the door.
